Project 50 #6/50

I am in love again!

Today was leg day and my previous routine looked like this:

  • Leg press
  • Romanian DB deadlift
  • Total abdominal
  • Leg extension
  • Seated calf raise
  • GHD

After today, it’s gonna look like this:

  • Front Barbell Squat
  • Sled pull and push
  • Romanian DB deadlift
  • GHD

The leg press I was doing just never felt right for me, the ROM just wasn’t there, my back never felt good. Extensions, raises and total abdominal also never felt great.

So I wanted to try and substitute all these and a combination of Front Barbell Squat and Sled pull and pushes seemed to tick all the required checkboxes.

So I tried it today!

Having been hesitant with squats, as every time I tried doing them in the last few years, I always ended up hurting my back, today was scary. I read somewhere that front squats seem to be safer on the back cause you’re more vertical and you’re generally doing less weight. So I’m starting with a low weight and am focusing on keeping my core tight, felt great!

And then it was time for the Sled. I don’t know why I’ve never tried it in all my years, but holy crap, it is so much fun. It’s also so much tougher than it looks when someone else is doing it. 4 lengths back and I am beat, with my heart reaching 165bpm (pushing sled+70kg). I did about 8 sets of 4 lengths each and honestly didn’t want to stop.

I felt muscles aching that I didn’t know existed. Every part of my body felt in use and on fire.

At the end of every set I was like, ok, one more, I want one more set.

How is it that I went for 15+ years of going to the gym and never tried this awesome thing?

If you haven’t tried it and don’t go to my gym, I highly encourage you to try it!
