There are a couple of spots on the Honda that I just don’t like visually, and I thought it’d be cool to model them in 3D and print them on a 3D printer. How hard can this be? I thought — and dove straight into downloading 3D software.
Fusion completely destroyed me right out of the gate, so I figured that one’s definitely not meant to be. Downloaded Blender instead.
Quickly realized that motorcycle parts are still way out of my league — gotta start with something simpler.
At work, there are weight plates lying around for the barbell and dumbbell. Gotta come up with a bracket for those. That has to be quick and easy… right?
After 8 hours of work (spread over a few days), I finally have a mock-up of one plate.
Was about to start sketching the bracket, but then realized how dumb it would be to do that without knowing what size metal I’ll actually be working with.
I’m gonna now go to a metal shop to find out what metal shapes and sizes they have, so I know what to model. Very excited to be on this journey.
Here’s the “finished” stl file.
