For me, every year, January 1st is a day off, a day to reflect, make plans and get motivated.
Last January 1st was great, we went to a local park and my little boy got to experience skiing for the first time in his life.

I was embarking on my longest round of carnivore ever (2+ months) and went down to my lowest in years: 138kg. The year was a lot of hard physical and mental work, a lot of good days and a lot of bad days.
As I write this Today I weigh in at 154kg. Almost exactly 1kg less than last year on the same date. So I guess net we’re making progress. The sad part is that I regained around 15kgs in the last month or so.
I went off the rails. Hard.
Carnivore for me is like a yo-yo diet. It’s incredible when I’m on it, but I am a vacuum when I am not.
And I recognise that it’s highly unlikely that I’ll be on it permanently so I can’t think of it as a solution for all my problems. I have to find a balance and have to figure out some sustainable middle ground.
I wanted to start a challenge of sorts, maybe follow the carnivore diet again, at least for January, but I don’t think I will.
What I am planning on doing is cutting out processed sugars in any implementation (be it jam, cookies or burgers – bread, ketchup) outside of social contexts.
What I mean for this is it’s ok for me to eat whatever in reasonable quantities when I’m out with friends or colleagues, but not ok for this sort of food to be part of my daily routine.
I am spoilt by having the ability to order any and all food delivered to work, quickly.
The foods are amazingly delicious, special things, that some people only get to experience once a year at best, these foods are routine to me. That’s kind of crazy.
So they must go. I think for the first couple months, I’ll try some meal prepping, allow a little bit of potatoes and stuff like buckwheat in my routine diet, but prioritise protein above all. See what happens to weight over the course of January and then make adjustments.
I got to spend Today with my son doing fun things like cleaning my weight plates 🙂
Mini challenge for January, daily things to do:
- Meditate at least 2 minutes
- Push-ups challenge (each day do yesterday+1 push-up)
- Take a photo of something every day
- Journal (not sure yet if I’ll publish here or privately)
