s1000r, welcome to the family

I love motorcycles. I had a couple some years ago, it all started with a little Yamaha sr125

Yamaha sr125

After passing my CBT in the UK, this is all I could ride with a B licence. That didn’t stop me from clocking over 30k miles in about a year and a half. I was going through some depression as many do at that age and every ride on it was like therapy that breathed life and joy back into my routine.

Then I moved back to Latvia and for a while was without a bike. A year or so passed and even though finances were tough, I couldn’t stop dreaming about being on two wheels again and I knew I wanted something that would scare me.

Yamaha FZR1000 frankenbike

This was the cheapest 1000cc motorbike around. I got it, had to do a lot of repairs on it, learned how to do carb cleaning and tuning. I am very grateful I got to ride it lots in Latvia, however when an opportunity came up to do a 2 month project in the UK, I went and took the bike with me.

Riding it in London every day through tight traffic was a joy and a struggle, no electronics, raw power and slippery roads are an exciting combination. It all ultimately culminated with me doing a wheelie across Westminster bridge in London.

That moment felt like peaking and I was afraid nothing on two bikes would ever feel as good. The bike developed some mechanical issues that were unreasonably expensive to repair and I sold it shortly after.

My motorcycling story ended there. For many years I thought I was cured of this illness. Free to live out the rest of my life in a 4 wheeled cage.

But I was wrong, motorcycling, for me is a passion, a fire that can be put out, but the embers keep on glowing and waiting for the smallest kindle to reignite into a flame. I kept this passion buried inside of me for years, drowning it with alcohol and candy, growing ever more desperate to get back on two wheels.

It is my pleasure to introduce the BMW s1000r.

It’s mine! It’s really mine!

It’s a 2016 with 9500 km on the clock, one owner, FSH.

I can’t wait for the snow to melt and for the season to start. I can’t wait for that alive feeling to consume me again.

Some nice pics from the dealer for now, I will surely be back with lots more content about it.
