You gotta have a plan, dummy

I’ve been listening to Before & Laughter by Jimmy Carr and had to pause and write some thoughts down.

This audiobook is probably the most enjoyable, self help/self improvement book I’ve listened to, yet I feel it is also the least useful, if the objective is to actually improve from this one book. Feels more like a taster into this addictive world of self help.

To be fair, I don’t know how to quantify improvement after listening to a book.

Nor is lack of content an issue. If anything, Jimmy’s rapid-fire approach is overwhelming, it’s an onslaught of everything useful in all the classic books and I often have to pause, think and then resume playback.

The latest pause-worthy information snippet was about uni graduates and those that had made a plan, doing better in life than their peers.

This struck a chord with me. I have gone with the flow and winged things for most of my life. While I have heard this advice before, it never really resonated or inspired me to do anything.

This time felt different and I instantly made a todo/plan for tomorrow, with one of the items on my list — to make a plan for the following day.

Let’s see what happens and how this week goes, but it feels good to have a plan right now. Thank you Jimmy.
